Per does NOT like Pears ... and other useless information

These are Bradford Pear trees.  At least that's what the locals tell me.

I love these Pear trees.

Per, on the other hand is not so fond of Pears.

Probably has something to do with the number of times he's been asked why his parents named him after a fruit.  IT'S A SCANDINAVIAN NAME, PEOPLE - IS THAT SO HARD TO COMPREHEND? ;-)

Annika and Kyra believe with all their hearts that these are Popcorn Trees.

You see, they've learned a fun little spring-time song at church titled "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree".  The lyrics go something like this:

I looked out the window and what did I see?
Popcorn popping on the apricot tree.
Spring has brought me such a nice surprise.
Popcorn popping right before my eyes.
I can take an armful and make a treat.
A popcorn ball that would smell so sweet.
It wasn't really so, but it seem to me....
Popcorn popping on the apricot tree.

I'm telling ya, my girls are suffering from some serious whiplash today after trying to point out all the "popcorn" trees on the way home from church on Sunday.

Per and his best friend made up some alternate lyrics for this song when they were a spry 8 years of age.

Their title?

Poop Balls Rolling Round the Toilet Seat.

Yes, he and his buddy were sent to the Bishops office more than once for substituting their colorful lyrics during Sunday School singing time.  Per still remembers every word (you'll have to email me if you want the full lyrics) ... and I'm thinking he "passed the torch" to Torby because I've been the music leader at church the last 18 months and I'm pretty sure I've heard some alternative lyrics coming from Torby's corner of the room every now and then.

I've finally accepted that Per is never going to grow up.  And to think I married him for that sense of humor!!!!

Anyway, back to the Pear Trees....

I stuck my arm out the sunroof and snapped this photo as I traveled down Old Hickory Boulevard on my lunch break today.

Why?

Because I like to freak out the other responsible drivers that are talking on their cell phones, texting, emailing on PDAs, applying make-up, or trying to insert the pacifier into the baby's mouth ... while driving.

That's why.

And because I thought my friends and family up North might appreciate the magnificence of these fluffy delights.

Happy Monday!  Are you craving popcorn now?
