Friday night was our church Boo Festival which includes the ever popular "trunk or treat". For those that have never heard of the "trunk or treat" concept, this is where you decorate the trunk of your car then the kids go "trick or treating" from car to car (or trunk to trunk) in the church parking lot. I'm sure Anders parents will think we are insane when they read this post ... as if the whole concept of Halloween isn't crazy enough already!!! Oh well, it's all in good fun :-)
We decked the trunk out with cobwebs and ghouls (didn't win best decorated trunk this year ... we'll reclaim the title next year) and donned our costumes for an evening with friends and neighbors.
Torby won a prize for best costume in his age group.

Now that's DISGUSTING (hey, he's only going to get to be a 12 year-old boy once in his life - I say go for it)!!!
Annika surprised us all by dumping the Snow White costume that she has been wearing for the past month and going instead as Belle (from Beauty and the Beast)!!!

We had an early morning football game Saturday so no time for our traditional breakfast at the park. Torby's team is in the playoffs now and they won this weekend - GO EAGLES!! If they win next weekend we'll be headed to the state championships... Torby is pretty excited about that possibility. Annika and Kyra decided they should join the cheer squad this weekend. Annika found a cheer outfit that a friend from work gave me last year (thanks Amanda) and insisted on wearing it to the game. It's only about 4 sizes to big for her, it's the wrong colors, and it has the WILDCATS logo plastered on front ... but we tried to look past all that as she cheered for her beloved EAGLES!!! 
I know what you're all thinking ... "what about Kyra's cheer oufit?". Don't even go there. Yes, she was devastated. And yes, I felt like a rotten mommy, but where I am supposed to find a cheer outfit for a 2 year-old at 8:oo on a Saturday morning? She got over it and we only have one or two games left this season so I'm not inclined to hunt down a cheer outfit for her this week. If she has any grandparents that are feeling especially sorry for her right now - then you may want to consider sending her a cheer outfit for her Christmas present this year!!! That evening we joined up with some friends to check out the "Ghouls at Grassmere" (part of the Nashville Zoo's Halloween celebration) but the lines to get in were quite literally a nightmare so we settled for another family favorite instead .... BOWLING!!!
Yes, the Snow White costume is back!!! We dressed the little ones up for the Zoo adventure but then they didn't want to remove their costumes when we changed our plans. So Snow White went bowling with us ... and Elmo was there too! It was a star-studded event :-)
For those of you thinking that the Elmo costume looks familiar that's because Torby wore that costume on Halloween ten years ago - my how time flies! Torby was completely infatuated with Elmo back then and he loved hanging out with his best friend Scotty. Life was much simpler then ... back when Torby was an only child!!
They were delicious. I filled some with a Williams-Sonoma rasberry sauce (this was Anders favorite) and others with some Belgium fudge that I had bought on impulse at Costco (Torby preferred this version). Brynn makes and excellent Sous Chef - wouldn't you agree?

Life was much simpler then ... back when Torby was an only child!!We wrapped up the weekend by trying something new for breakfast on Sunday morning. I love to cook and the girls LOVE to help me. They've been begging me to make these funky little pancakes with them ever since they saw a TV ad for Danish Ebleskivers last year. I finally stopped by Williams-Sonoma and picked up a pan to make these tasty, filled delicacies and we whipped up a batch Sunday morning.

We also prepared a big Sunday dinner of pot roast and potatoes since we had the missionaries as our dinner guests after church. Somebody has to feed those hungry young men and we usually invite them over for dinner at least one Sunday a month. It's always a pleasure to have them in our home.
And that's a wrap on our weekend. Somehow we fit the grocery shopping and laundry duties in there too - and we wonder why we're always so TIRED!! :-) We are blessed ... life is good. Hope your weekend was equally enjoyable.
